Man charged following critical two vehicle crash in Salt Ash Port Stephens by News Of The Area - Modern Media - May 3, 2022May 3, 2022 A MAN has been charged following a two-vehicle crash near Salt Ash in April. Email us – media@newsofthearea.com.au The passenger in the SUV, an 80-year-old woman, was trapped for a short time before being airlifted to John Hunter Hospital suffering critical leg injuries and five others, including the 78-year-old driver of the SUV and the 32-year-old driver of the sedan were all treated at the John Hunter Hospital for minor injuries. All three passengers from the passengers in the sedan, including two children aged two and five and a 31-year-old were uninjured. Local emergency services including NSW SES Port Stephens were activated by Police. On arrival, SES stabilised the vehicles and used hydraulic rescue tools including, cutters, spreaders and combi tool to perform a side removal on one of the vehicles. Officers from Port Stephens-Hunter Police District established a crime scene, which was examined by specialist police from the Crash Investigation Unit. Following investigations, the 78-year-old man attended Newcastle Police Station where he was arrested on Thursday 28 April 2022. The man was charged with dangerous driving occasioning grievous bodily harm, negligent driving occasioning grievous bodily harm, two counts of causing bodily harm by misconduct, negligent driving, and not keeping left of dividing line.
