FURTHER to the Woolgoolga War Memorial, I see on the Woolgoolga Master Plan, that a spot has been identified for a war memorial.

I understand a recent professional report advises that the old WW1 War memorial building blocks are in reasonable condition, and could be safely rebuilt.

DVA will almost certainly provide the funds to rebuild the old memorial, or, even, to build a new one.

Although Council advises that there are no Council plans to take any action on the war memorial for the next five years, it seems to me that if the spot has been identified, the Government funds, via DVA, will almost certainly be provided, and I’m sure the Woolgoolga War Memorial Restoration Group is ready to swing into action, then the Council should revisit the development plan to bring forward the rebuild of the old WW1 War Memorial, or build a new modern one.

Council involvement would be merely an overview or administrative one, thus there will be minimal impact to existing Council resources, both human and technical.

Why is the Council procrastinating over this decision?

The town is in danger of losing a tangible reminder of the ultimate sacrifice local people gave in defence of this nation.

To rebuild it by 11/11/2022 would be quite fitting.
