TUESDAY 5 April: Finally, Round Two of the Open Consistency Competition was played, in all the games the winners started strongly and held their lead from start to finish.

Karen Green defeated Bev Rhodes 150 v 89. Lynne Green and Wendy Brand had bowled 16 ends when Wendy had to forfeit due to injury, the score at this point was Lynne 100 and Wendy 60.

A win to Robyn Beaumont 151 v Robyn Webster 99.

Lorraine Murphy 155 v Maureen Campbell 95 and a win also to Maynie Roberts 155 v Sheila Rattray 105.

Social bowls was a game of ‘turn around Singles’ the winner was Dale Winter.

The raffle was won by Karen McPhie, thanks to The Garden Eatery for donating the raffle prize.

Thursday 7 April: Play did commence for Round Three of the Open consistency but unfortunately, the only winner today was the rain, games were abandoned due to the weather.

Tuesday 12 April: No social bowls played. Round 3 of the Open Consistency Competition had commenced on Thursday 7 April but was abandoned due to rain, play resumed today the scores carried through. Lorraine Murphy v Karen McPhie, the score at the start of this game was Lorraine 67 v Karen 43. Lorraine continued in front for the next 6 ends but Karen gained 18 points over 2 ends resulting in an equal score of 85 all.

Then Karen hit the front for the next 4 ends then once again ‘even steven’ 110 all, 23 ends played.

These two were ‘neck to neck’ going into what would be their final end Lorraine 147, Karen 143 still anyone’s game.

Karen scored a 6, (she needed 7 to win), Lorraine got 4 winning 151 v 149.

Another nail biter was contested on the next rink Karen Green v Robyn Beaumont, when play re-commenced here Robyn held a narrow lead, this continued for the first couple of ends then Karen started nudging ahead, after 22 ends Karen had a lead of 18 (119 v 101).

Robyn wasn’t giving up, over the next 7 ends she had reduced the difference in scores to just 2, Karen 146 v Robyn 144.

Unbelievable, they both scored 5 on the last end Karen declared the winner 151 v 149.

Bette Saillard held a strong lead against Judy McGavock all the way, Bette winning after 28 ends 150 v 130.

Maynie Roberts 51 and Lynne Green 49 when they resumed their match, Maynie came back with a vengeance after 5 ends she was 18 points ahead, the next 10 ends resulted in her being 30 points in front.

Lynne bowled well over the next 4 ends, scoring a perfect score 10, on the second last end but ultimately losing 157 v 133. The winners progress to the semi final.

Karen McPhie won the raffle, thanks to The Garden Eatery for donating the prize.

Thursday 14 April: The Semi Final of the Open Consistency Competition Bette Saillard v Maynie Roberts, sadly Bette had to forfeit due to unforeseen circumstances, Maynie proceeded through to the Final.

Karen Green v Lorraine Murphy, this contest lasted 26 ends, after 8 ends the score was 40 all, from then on Lorraine hit the front and never looked back winning 151 v 109.

The final Maynie Roberts v Lorraine Murphy to be played Tuesday 19th April. Social bowls a game of 3 bowls triples 12 ends, Sue Morris, Dale Cameron and Pat Baker out bowled Chrissy Buddle, Carol Hayden and Lynda Richards winning 18 v 9.
