A VARIETY of programs are on offer this school holidays for school children and youth of the Nambucca Valley. These programs have been put together to include activities that cover a huge range of interests and passions that students may have. Opportunities abound to learn a new skill while taking a break from the learning at school. The first four days of the holidays, beginning on Monday 11 April, included timetabled entertainment such as art, jewellery making and music classes at the Nambucca Youthie for all ages. ‘Bully Proof’, a play for eight to fourteen year olds, was held at Macksville library on 12 April to assist children with developing skills to understand what bullying is, and teach strategies to cope with bullying. There was a free cinema day for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander (ATSI) students at the Majestic Cinema on Wednesday 13 April, and a free basketball event for eight to eighteen year olds at Macksville High on the same day where attendees were supplied with a free jersey as well as their lunch. On Tuesday 19 April the activities begin again after a break for the Easter period. On offer is laser tag, a free movie, the Agriculture Matters Youth Workshop, an arts and craft day, and a footy fun day (ATSI only). The hands-on Agriculture Matters Youth Workshop, located at Bowraville Central School, is open to students from K-12 and includes an on-site farm tour. Students will be introduced to a range of agricultural topics, and gain an understanding about where and how food and fibres are produced. The completion of the packed Youth Week and school holiday timetable is on Saturday 23 April at Scotts Head Surf School where a Learn to Surf program will be run. The Learn to Surf program is open to all swimming abilities and attendees just need to bring their swimmers and a towel; boards will be provided. Activities require registration prior to the event.
