The upcoming Hawks Nest Tea Gardens Progress Association meeting has some key issues to be discussed and addressed.

The meeting is planned for 14 September and first on the agenda is the report on the Shearwater developments.

Progress Association President Trevor Jennings said this report will be contacted by Ronnie Nichols and will particularly interest those residents on the ‘heights’.

Other items of discussion will be the truck noise on Myall Way.

“We will discuss Council’s negative response to the Association’s request for an advisory sign to alert truck drivers not to use their loud exhaust brakes when travelling along the flat section of Myall Way, after having descended the hill from the lookout into Tea Gardens,” Mr Jennings told Myall Coast News.

The third item on the agenda is designed to generate some initial discussion regarding the future of the swimming pool.

Council’s long term plan involves relocating all Council recreational facilities, including the pool, to an area within the future Myall Downs development but there is some concern that this location is far too remote from the rest of the community, especially those residents at Hawks Nest.

“Of course, a modern indoor pool is well overdue but its design, layout and location will need to be the subject of intense community consultation,” said Mr Jennings.

The proposed and recently reported Grey and Thespian Mardi Gras is a project that has been initiated to further rejuvenate the commercial centre of Hawks Nest.

Mr Jennings said, “The discussion at the meeting is expected to confirm the need for the event, funding sources and seek feedback on the many aspects of its organisation, to be run during Seniors Week next April.”

Other items to be discuss will be Marine Drive, Footpath widening in Kingfisher Avenue, Lights and Pelicans on the bridge, Friendly Grocer site at Hawks Nest, Seating and landscaping at Hawks Nest, Proposed boardwalk at Winda Woppa, Proposed ‘Dump-point’, $1000 grant for artwork, Volunteers for the Information Centre, and other general business.

The meeting is scheduled for a 7pm start, in the Old Library in Booner Street Hawks Nest this Monday 14 September.
