MARK Sheppard, Soldiers Point Bowling Club’s Singles Champion, last week competed in the Newcastle Zone ‘Champion of Champions’ event at Beresfield.

Mark had a successful tournament getting through the first four rounds to reach the Semi-final.

In previous rounds he had beaten Mark Wahlstedt of Cardiff Bowling Club, Greg Coote from Adamstown and David Hawkins from Wallsend.

The Semi was a close run match against John Dunn from Warners Bay.

The scores were very close throughout the match with Mark trailing 23 shots to 26 towards the end.

However, John then played some excellent bowls to win.

He went on to the Final losing to Adam Gleeson from Bar Beach.

So congratulations go to Mark for a very creditable performance in the tournament.

He will now go to Forster as a member of Soldiers Point first grade team competing in the State Pennant Finals.

New members are welcome at the Club where they can receive free coaching in this challenging sport.
