Coffs Hotel to celebrate 85th birthday on April 1

Long-serving Marty Phillips has been Publican for 26 years at the Coffs Hotel.

THE Coffs Hotel will take a trip back in time to 1937 on Friday 1 April as the iconic local hotel celebrates its 85th anniversary.

Long-serving Publican Marty Phillips is excited to welcome punters to the Hotel for the celebrations, and hopes the community will get into the spirit of the 1930s themed day out.

“We are going back to the 1930s,” Marty said.

“We open at 10am, and a penny will get you a beer or a wine.”

The celebrations kick off with some light music in the morning and hotel-goers will be greeted by characters from the era throughout the day.

“One notable character is a policeman – an old ‘bobby’,” said Marty, who after 26 years as publican, has witnessed nearly a third of the Hotel’s life.

“At about 6pm we will cut the cake for the Hotel’s birthday,” he said.

“From about 6:30 we will have Pontiac Bandit, Greg Matter and Whitewater playing.

“A great time will be had by all.”

Prizes are also on offer throughout the day, so come dressed in your best 1930s outfit.

“Everyone is welcome.

“Come and celebrate the 85th birthday of the old girl,” Marty said.

  1. Hi,
The second band is called “Grey Matter”, not Greg Matter as mentioned in the post. How do I know this? I’m in the Band!

    cheers,
    Bronte
