Gamumbi Early Childhood Education Centre’s fresh floors opened by Mayor Paul Amos

Steve Palmer, Gamumbi Committee Vice President and Mayor Paul Amos officially open the newly floored areas at Gamumbi.

GAMUMBI Early Childhood Education Centre in Toormina has officially unveiled fresh new flooring in buildings that had been damaged by the October 2021 hailstorm.

A Building Together – Community Infrastructure Grant of $22,955 funded Gamumbi’s ‘You’ll be Floored’ project for the replacement of flooring in the service areas and staff rooms.

“Mayor Paul Amos attended Gamumbi to inspect the completed project and officially open the new floors,” Lisa Stevens, Director at Gamumbi, told News Of The Area.

“The children watched on as the ‘giant scissors’ cut the ribbon and made the opening official.

“As a not-for-profit community-based service, Gamumbi relies heavily on grants and fundraising for much needed improvements and we would like to thank Coffs Harbour City Council for their support.

“Gamumbi Early Childhood Education Centre sought funding to replace water damaged and torn flooring throughout the service’s play rooms and staff areas.

“This was important to ensure a safe and healthy environment for children to play, explore and learn.

“After extensive damage to the service in last year’s hailstorms, it was lovely to start the year with fresh flooring.

“With this funding Gamumbi was able to engage Cowlings RnR Carpets Coffs Harbour to supply and install Marmoleum flooring which is a 97 percent natural raw material product and CO2 neutral which was the perfect choice to support Gamumbi’s sustainability philosophy,” said Lisa.

The Centre has successfully applied for funding from Council’s ‘Building Together – Community Infrastructure Grants’ program a number of times.

CHCC is urging community organisations to check out their eligibility for this grants program.

The program aims to assist not-for-profit and community organisations to undertake capital projects that enhance the economic, social, and environmental well-being of the local community.

Projects that could be eligible for funding may include new community infrastructure projects, refurbishment of existing infrastructure, projects that build capacity into infrastructure, and innovative projects that serve community benefit.
