Advertising Feature: Get Creative and Dance at the Julie Ross Dance Studio

The adult beginner tap group at JRDS.

EXPERIENCE the joys and benefits of dance by getting creative at a class at the Julie Ross Dance Studio in Boambee Valley, just south of Coffs Harbour.

Improve your overall physical and mental well being by joining a dance class.

Classes in Dancefit, Basic beginner tap, Intermediate and performance tap run in the day and evening.

The benefits are far reaching and almost immediately participants feel lighter, more confident and happier. Meeting new friends and sharing your love of dance is so easy if you let down the barrier of not feeling good enough.

The classes are for beginners and anyone is welcome to join.

You only need a willingness to participate and you can leave the rest up to our instructors Julie Ross and Gabby Shanks.

Julie teaches the daytime classes and has over 30 years experience in dance teaching.

She also teaches Music and Movement, a seated dance program for Parkinson’s and seniors with balance problems or issues due to ageing.

Gabby Shanks, the new manager and tap teacher from Newcastle, trained at Brent Street and runs the evening adult tap class.

Julie will engage you in her class with old classics from musical theatre as well as jazz and some modern rhythmic beats.

There is room for your own style to develop, however if you are a beginner and prefer to follow along, Julie participates in all the action so you don’t have to remember the routines and can relax and follow. Gabby’s classes are always fun and energetic with funky beats and musical theatre as her favourites.

No matter what your ability or age we can definitely help get you started and find the class that’s just for you.

We have different levels so there is no problem if you’re a basic beginner we can cater for you.

Age is no barrier and many of the adults are 50-90 years old.

For the more experienced tap dancers or even if you are a beginner and keen to develop your talent we often do shows and performances for charity and the nursing homes.

This is a highlight for the group and the satisfaction and gratitude we receive from the nursing home audiences is amazing and so humbling.

We have four routines currently and keep adding to our repertoire for our next performance or new members.

Our favourites are the Can Can tap, Tequila latin modern and tap, Sunnyside of the Street tap and Cory’s Reel, our Irish tap especially choreographed for St Patrick’s day events.

We try to create a vibrant environment where it’s possible to explore your artistic creative side as well as a place to make new friends.
