STROUD SES are urging residents to “prepare now” by getting ready for the possible impact of flooding to the area.

“Local experience and history do indicate that very heavy rain falling into our local catchments, which are already saturated, can lead to rapid rises in creeks and rivers leading to isolation of individual properties and communities.

“The SES is asking you to prepare now – consider your own situation and what you have experienced in the past, may encounter again and consider that conditions may be worse than those you have previously encountered,” a Stroud SES representative said.

Plan for road closures – ensure you have obtained sufficient food, fuel, medications and other necessities to enable you to live comfortably until flooding recedes or road access is restored if damage occurs.

If you are unwell or have appointments requiring you to leave your property in the next few days consider moving to a safer location now.

If relatives, friends, or others are planning on visiting in the next few days, ask them to delay their trip until the weather improves.

Do not drive through floodwater.

If you are on a Rural Property with stock, pumps and equipment in low lying areas move everything to higher ground now before the situation becomes hazardous.

Ensure you have considered shelter, feed and security for your animals in the area to which they have been relocated.

“Flash flooding is common throughout our area and it is not uncommon for a road to be cut with little or no warning,” the Unit said.
