THE Sawtellian of the Year presentation will take place on Saturday 5 March at noon.

“After the COVID scare forced the cancellation of New Year’s Day’s 2022 Sawtell Super Fun Day and the awarding of Sawtellian and Young Sawtellian’s of the Year, the hunt has been on for new date to present the awards,” Fun Day Committee Chairperson Keith Bensley told NOTA.

“Ideally we were looking for a date where both awards could be made, but getting everyone involved, including the nominees on one date now we are out of the holiday season, proved difficult.”

Taking it step by step, the new date of Saturday 5 March at 12 midday at the Sawtell Surf Club will see the Sawtellian of the Year announced by Coffs Harbour MP Gurmesh Singh who will present the award to a well-deserving community member.

“Everyone in the Sawtell community is welcome to come along to see who wins the award for making an outstanding contribution to the Sawtell community in 2021,” said Keith.

The Young Sawtellian of the Year will be presented at a later date which will be announced in a future edition of NOTA.

The Sawtell Fun Day Committee has also been looking at all options to reschedule the 2022 Fun Day.

“Finding a day when all the participants and providers are available and we can close the street for the Fun Run and Street Parade, proved impossible,” said Keith.

“The complete Fun Day program has been put on ice until 1 January 2023 when we hope to have fine weather and a COVID free day of fun, entertainment and the announcement of the Sawtellian and Young Sawtellian’s for 2022.”
