Congratulations to the council of the time, headed by then Mayor, Keith Rhodes, who confronted our flooding disasters of the time and went into action.

The detention basins they forged ahead with, have made such a huge difference to our ability to withstand the type of weather event we have just experienced.

Certainly we did not have the unbelievable rainfall totals that other less fortunate cities experienced, but we had enough to test out our system of basins.

The council of the time had the foresight to change what was due to be a recurring problem here.

However, I continue to be puzzled by the question: “Why don’t the Insurance companies and the State and Federal Governments pool together and address one city’s problem at a time, and design better mitigation plans?” Surely there must be better ideas than confronting the same problems every few years and handing over money for cleaning up the mess.
