Email us – media@newsofthearea.com.au “This vehicle has all the mod cons a busy brigade needs to get out there and protect their community,” said District Officer, Inspector Michael Brougham. “The new truck is the latest RFS design, carrying 3500 litres of water, and the design livery and emergency lighting allows our crews to be better seen when working at incidents. “The truck has the latest design in crew protection with cabin sprays and radiant heat shields to protect the crews in case of fire overrun. “The Cat 1 also has a bull bar mounted monitor, or nozzle, to allow crews to direct water onto a fire from inside the cabin. “It holds six crew and all the equipment needed by the brigade to combat incidents we are called to, including a fridge to keep the crew’s drinking water cool. “The old appliance is now part of the RFS second-hand tanker program. “It will be transferred to another brigade in NSW to continue its service.” From Corindi RFS Captain Rob Cox’s perspective, he hopes the new truck will attract new young volunteers to the Brigade. “We’re all getting older, and we’re keen to train up young people. “The RFS training can be really useful, giving the volunteers skills they can transfer to their lives and jobs; they can train for their truck driver’s licence, they can get a chainsaw licence and these skills and certificates can also be used as credits towards further education, including uni courses such as Emergency Management. “As an emergency service, it doesn’t cost the volunteers anything for their training.” Anyone interested in joining Corindi RFS and getting aboard Corindi 1 can call the Brigade on 02 6649 1940, or for Coffs RFS call 02 6651 6133 and/or visit https://www.rfs.nsw.gov.au/volunteer/join-the-nsw-rfs.
