Nambucca Valley community invited to Australia Day gathering at Eungai Creek Nambucca Valley by News Of The Area - Modern Media - January 21, 2022 NAMBUCCA Valley Council would like to invite everyone to come to an Australia Day Gathering at Unkya Reserve, Eungai Creek Road, Eungai Creek on Wednesday 26 January 2022 from 8.30am to 2.00pm. The theme of the day is ‘Reflect. Respect. Celebrate’ and attendees will have time to do all of those. There will be a smoking ceremony, and a space to record your thoughts on our nation. Try your hand at weaving the Gumbaynggirr way, using plant materials, as Aunty Lauren Jarrett shows traditional methods and techniques. Local Gumbaynggirr artists will be showcased, and you can find out more about when the Freedom Ride came to town, as well as local language and stories. Plus there will be market stalls with handcrafted, locally made goods and produce, food trucks, a BBQ, and Unkya’s famous canteen with amazing coffee and home-baked goods. Still want more? Four bands will be playing throughout the day – listen to The Shufflemen, The Haig Bros, Full Moon and The Rosie MissChief Band, featuring local performer Rosie Donovan. What about the kids? How about free glitter tattoos, balloons, craft, cake decorating and games? Still not enough? Bring two of your best lamingtons by 10.00am and enter the lamington competition – will yours be the tastiest lamingtons in the Nambucca Valley? You can also meet the Nambucca Valley’s Australia Day Ambassador, world Superbike champion, Warwick Nowland. Entry is free! This event will be run in accordance with all relevant COVID-19 regulations. All attendees must check in and follow all instructions from COVID-19 marshalls.
