COFFS Harbour Swimming Club created a big splash at the Coffs Harbour War Memorial Swimming Pool last Saturday as 305 swimmers across New South Wales raced and broke records. Coffs Harbour Swimming Club smashed numerous records as Club President Daniel Bannerman told News Of The Area. “Coffs Harbour Swimming Club members took advantage of racing in their home pool over the weekend breaking 19 club records during the summer splash meet. “In total there were 305 competitors from the Queensland border down to Sydney. “It was a great atmosphere with many of the swimmers racing for the first time in 2022 and a great opportunity to race before the major competitions start this week in Sydney for senior state,” said Daniel. The summer splash had an extra element of excitement, with Woolgoolga’s silver medalist from the Tokyo Paralympics, Maddie McTernan, competing in four races. Maddie started her swimming career in 2013 at the age of thirteen under the tutelage of Coffs Harbour Swimming Club coach Eugene Brogmus. Maddie presented her former coach Eugene with a gift of gratitude before the racing began. Coffs Harbour Swimming Club paraded their banner of support which they used to cheer on Maddie at the Tokyo Paralympics where she won a silver medal for Australia. Councillor George Cecato presented Maddie with an award of recognition and appreciation from the Swimming Club. Once the racing began, former coach Eugene and Maddie were united together at the side of the pool, cheering on the swimmers and providing encouragement.
