I ALSO attended the meet the candidates at the showground meeting and was unimpressed with some of the candidates.

The main problem I have is, do we really need politics in local government?

We have enough problems with them in State and Federal politics without bringing them into our local Council.

The last Council election saw a Labor candidate enter Council for the first time in Council’s history.

They also get funding support for their campaign by the political party, making it hard for independents without that support money.

I feel that independent candidates would have the Council and the community interests at the top of their agenda, as they don’t have to tow the party line.
