About 7.20pm Wednesday 17 June, police stopped a Holden Commodore Station Wagon on Marine Drive Tea Gardens. The vehicle was suspected of being responsible for a number of “burnouts” around Tea Gardens with evidence of tyre marks remaining on a number of local streets.

The driver, a 17 year old male who had recently relocated to town, was unable to produce a licence and it was later confirmed he had never held one.

He did however produce the learners permit of his step brother to purchase alcohol before being stopped by police.

He was breath tested at the scene which returned a positive reading.

The front seat passenger was identified as the drivers father who was recently disqualified but his licence had lapsed and he too was  now also unlicenced.

The 38 year old father of the driver was spoken to at the scene about the spate of burnouts.

Both were conveyed back to Tea Gardens Police Station.

The 17 year old was subjected to a breath analysis which returned a reading of 0.018.

He was charged with Novice range PCA, driving unlicenced and issued a $220 fine for using his step brothers ID and released from custody.

His 38 year old father was conveyed to Raymond Terrace Police Station where he was charged with a number of driving offences including 3 x burnouts and drive whilst unlicenced.

He was also given bail conditions not to occupy the drivers seat of any motor vehicle.

Both are set to appear before Raymond Terrace Local Court in July.
