Nambucca Valley Remembrance Day commemorations Nambucca Valley by News Of The Area - Modern Media - November 4, 2021 Nambucca Heads Cenotaph. ON 11 November 1918 the four year long First World War came to an end at 11am. The NSW Department of Veterans Affairs states that this day is now a day to remember the sacrifice of all those Australians who have died in wars and conflict. “As a mark of respect to those who have died and suffered, people in Australia are encouraged to stop what they are doing at 11 am to observe one minute’s silence and reflect on the loss and suffering caused by war.” Remembrance Day commemorations are going ahead on 11 November at Nambucca Heads. Nambucca Heads RSL sub-Branch will be holding the commemoration at the Nambucca Heads Cenotaph near the RSL carpark. Mayor Rhonda Hoban will be present to lay a wreath, as will students from Nambucca Heads High School. Those attending the ceremony are welcome to bring a wreath to lay at the cenotaph. Owing to current COVID restrictions, and the uncertainty during these times, the service has been limited in what presentations are made. Mr Mick Birtles, Nambucca Heads RSL sub-Branch president, encourages attendees to arrive at 10:30 for a 10:45 start so that everyone is able to complete the Covid sign-in and be seated. President Mr Mick Birtles will be Master of Ceremonies, Vice-President Mr Rob Freebairn will deliver the address, and Pastor Sydney Coetzee, Nambucca Christian Life centre, will be leading the prayers. “In the current environment we really need more than ever to remember them,” said Mr Birtles.
