A man from Cessnock attended a tyre outlet in Macksville in a stolen QLD registered Mitsubishi Magna last Wednesday morning, 3 June.

After having the tyres fitted he has driven from the scene without paying for them.

In his escape the driver hit the stores owner in an attempt to flee.

Later that day the vehicle was observed south of Bulahdelah on the Pacific Highway.

Police have attempted to stop the vehicle however the driver accelerated and refused to stop.

The vehicle reached speeds of 190km and the driver was observed throwing items out the window at police. One of the items thrown was a tyre brace.

Police deployed roadspikes south of the intersection of Myall Way.

The deployment was successful with both drivers side tyres being punctured.

The driver continued on before taking the Karuah exit and abandoning the vehicle at the entrance into Hunter Quarries. The man ran from police. Police gave chase.

The man was closely followed by a police dog which soon apprehended him in bushland.

Checks revealed he had an outstanding arrest warrant and was disqualified from driving until 2026.

A search of the vehicle located two large knives, a baseball bat and three hockey masks.

Also in the vehicle was a number of house-breaking tools.

He was conveyed to Raymond Terrace Police Station.

Further checks revealed he was wanted for a break and enter that occurred in Fern Bay in January this year. In that incident the man also stole a vehicle.

In addition to his record, the man was wanted for a second motor vehicle theft from his sister in March.

He was bail refused and scheduled to appear before Raymond Terrace Local Court Thursday 4 June.

He was charged with a list of offences including Dishonestly obtain property by deception, Common assault, Negligent driving, Use offensive weapon with intent to commit indictable offence, Skyes Law (drive speed dangerous), Drive disqualified, Use weapon to avoid apprehension, Break and enter, Take and use conveyance, Goods in custody, Possess house breaking implements, and finally, Possess offensive implement.
