WITH one of the oldest populations in Australia, an important priority for the MidCoast region is to ensure our region is a great place where we can live and age well. “A comprehensive Ageing Strategy that guides MidCoast Council, other agencies and the community to achieve community-identified priorities for an older population is the first step to ensuring our towns and villages are age-friendly,” said Council’s Coordinator of Community Development, Lyndie Hepple. Email us – media@newsofthearea.com.au Earlier this year, one of Council’s largest ever community consultations saw over 700 people aged over 50 participate in the development of the MidCoast Draft Ageing Strategy, which is now on public exhibition for community feedback before it is endorsed by Council. “This extraordinary result ensures that the strategies in the Ageing Strategy are representative of the whole community,” said Lyndie Hepple. The whole-of-community Strategy includes five focus areas covering every aspect of living here: health and wellbeing, working and retiring, getting around, housing choices and inclusive communities. “We are now asking the community to review the draft Strategy and let us know what you think before it is endorsed by Council,” added Lyndie. “The draft Strategy’s content has been informed by over 700 contributors, so this review is a final check to ensure our Strategy is as robust as possible.” Head to haveyoursay.midcoast.nsw.gov.au/ageing-strategy to view the document and submit your feedback there via a quick online survey, or you can visit a local Library to view a copy and email your submission to: community@midcoast.nsw.gov.au or post to: MidCoast Council PO Box 482 Taree NSW 2430.
