FOR the first time since its inception, the Nambucca Heads Lions Club is opening its membership to females.

The Lions Club will be holding an Information Night for prospective male and female members on Tuesday October 26.

News Of The Area spoke with Grahame Beatton, who is in charge of membership for the Club.

“We are looking forward to welcoming new members into the club, and this includes both female and male members.

“Female members will offer the chance for both adult members of a family to join.

“It is opening up the club to a new way of adding numbers.”

Lions District Governor Robin Parker said, “Inviting female members to join the club allows for new ideas and different ways of thinking to become part of the club’s direction.

“It adds another way of looking at things.”

The membership night will inform prospective members about the different activities that the Lions Club carries out in the community and the benefits that come from joining the club.

Mr Beatton said, “We would really like to have younger community members join up to the club.

“That way these younger members can bring new ideas.

“The work the Nambucca Heads Lions Club has undertaken over the years has supported the community and visitors “to the valley.

“The Lions Club needs new members if we are to continue the support to the level we have given over the many years.”

The proposed program for the night includes a slide program, a variety of Lions members speaking about the benefits of Lions work in the community, Youth of the Year, Peace Posters, Santa Letters, Scholarship Grants and other important elements of what the Lions do.

Nambucca Valley Mayor Rhonda Hoban has been invited to attend but at the time of writing the Lions had not yet received a response.

Nambucca Heads Lions Club Information night will be held at Nambucca Heads RSL 26 October.

Arrive at 6pm for a 6:30 start.

Please RSVP by 19 October to Bill Shepherd on 0428 004 035 or email nambuccaheads@lionsdistrict201n1.org.au.

The meeting is expected to conclude at approximately 8:30pm.
