Tea Gardens Women’s Bowling Club Results

The winners of the Club Championship Triples Dawn May, Judy McGavock and Dawn Jones.

ON Tuesday 28 September, Tea Gardens Women’s Bowling Club members took part in the Semi Final of the Club Championship Triples and social bowls.

Format for social bowls was a game of Fours and a game of Triples.

It was great to see Wendy Jones back bowling with us.

Jan Coomer was playing “swinger lead” in the Fours.

Jan, Sheila Rattray, Wendy Brand and Bette Saillard made a great comeback in this game bowling against Jan, Dorothy Thompson, Wendy Jones and Ingrid Luck.

Bette’s team were losing by 9 shots on the 6th end, 10 v 1.

The next 4 ends they gained 10 points and the lead the score now 11 v 10, from then on they never looked back winning 19 v 14.

Robyn Webster, Judi Polak and Sandra Leisemann were a bit slow in starting but came home with a vengeance in their contest v Dale Winter, Lyn Nightingale and Dot Dallas.

The score 8 all on the 8th end but from here on Sandra’s team took control claiming victory on the 18th end 20 v 11.

The winners on the day winning with the lowest margin were Jan, Sheril, Wendy and Bette.

In the Triples Semi Final, there was an interesting finish in the match between Dawn May, Dawn Jones and Judy McGavock v Pam Gilchrist, Jean Glover and Jeanette Emmett.

On the 16th end with just 2 ends left to bowl Judy’s team looked to be “home and hosed” ahead by 9 shots 17 v 8.

But as everyone knows anything can happen in a game of bowls and it nearly did.

Jeanette’s team won the last 2 ends and added 7 points to their tally just losing by 2 shots, 17 v 15.

It was a close game till the 8th end when Lynda Richards, Karen McPhie and Robyn Beaumont took on Sheila Rattray, Irene Roberts and Kathie Rimmer.

From then on Robyn’s team gathered momentum winning on the 17th end 20 v 8.

Great bowling by all competitors.

Dale Winter was the winner of the raffle, many thanks to The Garden Eatery for donating the raffle prize.

Thursday 30 September: Social bowls played 2 games of Triples and 2 games of Pairs.

A good win to Jeanette Emmett, Dorothy Thompson and Bette Saillard 17 v Sandra Leisemann, Lyn Everingham and Lyn Nightingale 7.

Pat Baker, Judi Polak and Bev Dunn ended up with a 12 all drawn playing against Dot Dallas, Neryl Grehan and Dale Winter.

Irene Roberts and Pam Gilchrist were down by 4 shots at the start of the last end, 11 v 7, v Sheila Rattray and Helen O’Harae.

They scored a 3 on the last end just losing by 1 point 11 v 10.

A similar tale in the other Pairs game Jean Glover and Jan Coomer held a good lead all the way v Ingrid Luck and Carol Hayden, but ultimately won by just 2, 11 v 9.

The Final of The Club Championship Triples, as reported to me by the spectators, was “a great game of bowls to watch”.

Dawn May, Dawn Jones and Judy McGavock v Lynda Richards, Karen McPhie and Robyn Beaumont.

This was a tight game in the beginning on the 9th end Judy’s team in front by 1 shot 8 v 7.

The next 3 ends resulted in their team gaining 7 shots now holding a big lead 15 v 7.

By the 14th end this lead had been reduced to 3 shots 15 v 12, 4 ends left to bowl still a chance of victory for either team. Dawn, Dawn and Judy rose to the occasion bowled magnificently as they had done through the entire game won 3 of the last 4 ends winning the Championship 21 v 13.

This is the first Club Championship that these 3 ladies have won, and probably will not be their last.

Congratulations to both teams on reaching the Final of this event.

Many thanks to Karen Green and Kathie Rimmer for Umpiring this week.
