The date has been set after consultation with Cricket NSW the Newcastle Junior Cricket Association. Players are being reminded to sign up to ensure their places on the team. The Club is also offering the Mark Palmer Scholarship to assist players with the costs associated with pursuing cricket as a sport. Players who believe they would be a role model to other team members of the Nelson Bay Cricket Club, and would like to have funds available to go towards registration and enjoy a free one on one coaching session with club coach Trent Colley, should apply for the scholarship. Nelson Bay Junior Cricket Club Secretary Matt Brealey told News Of The Area, “There are multiple scholarships available for junior players.” Matt is encouraging players to apply through the online form which only takes around five minutes to complete. Junior cricket has smaller team sizes to encourage greater match action for all players and reduced pitch length and boundary widths for the younger age groups to make sure they are relevant to the players size and age groups. Better still for junior players, gone are the days where junior cricket takes up the whole weekend with shortened match lengths with high levels of action and involvement. Playing cricket can help to develop children’s fitness, agility, motor skills and hand eye coordination through bowling, catching and batting, while engaging in leadership and developing a great sense of working as a team.
