WOOLGOOLGA’S Blues & Berries Festival has been cancelled for a second year in a row due to current COVID-19 restrictions and State border closures.

Festival organiser Sherry Price broke the news via the festival’s Facebook page on Wednesday 22 September that the event set to be held on Sunday 7 November was cancelled.

“The health and safety of our local community, visitors, stallholders, friends, and family is our main priority and the current Covid-19 restrictions and border closures have left us no option but to cancel the event,” Sherry stated on the page.

“After the disappointment of cancelling 2020’s event, our team at Another Tasty Event worked tirelessly to get Blues & Berries 2021 together and up until a few weeks ago, we were on schedule to bring you a fantastic festival with a great lineup of Blues & Roots music.

“Unfortunately, we will all just have to be patient for a little while longer.”

The family friendly event, which celebrates blues and roots music and berries by the beach, has been held annually since 2017 at Woolgoolga Beach Reserve, attracting around 4000 people to the festivities.

The cancellation of the popular Woolgoolga event comes on the back of the cancellation of Woolgoolga’s flagship Curryfest event, which was scheduled to take place last Sunday 26 September.

Curryfest was also cancelled last year due to COVID-19 restrictions.

The recent Blues & Berries Festival cancellation is another disappointment for festival organisers in the region who were hoping 2021 would be a better year for them than 2020.

But not one to give up, Blues & Berries Festival organiser Sherry Price has already announced the date of next year’s festival, with the annual event rescheduled for Sunday 6 November 2022.

“We will see you there for an awesome day of live blues & roots music, loads of fresh berries and your favourite food stalls,” Sherry stated.

“We would like to thank our supporters, artists, stallholders and most of all our amazing sponsors, for their continued and ongoing support.”
