TWO of the North Coast’s best young cricketers have been recognised for their recent achievements and great sportsmanship.

Jack Horseman and Quinn Cooper have been awarded the John McMahon OAM Scholarships as the North Coast Cricket Council’s Young and Junior Cricketers of the Year for the 2020/21 season.

The scholarships are awarded by the North Coastal Cricket Zone to young cricketers such as Jack Horseman and Quinn Cooper who excel in sportsmanship and fairness consistent within the spirit of the game, have commitment to improving their personal skills, and for their contribution to the community outside cricket.

Jack Horseman was a member of the Sawtell Cricket Club’s premiership winning side who won the 2020/21 North Coast Cricket Council’s Premier League title.

Horseman was one of Sawtell’s best bowlers last season taking 10 wickets in 7 matches at an average of 12.3.

This included a vital spell of 2/25 from 14 overs in Sawtell’s grand final win against the Northern Districts Rebels at Richardson Park.

Quinn Cooper spent last season playing junior representative cricket for Valleys Cricket in the under 14’s inter-district competition, where he starred with the ball taking 5 wickets at an average of 4.8.

Cooper also chipped in with the bat averaging 21 runs.

Both the two scholarship recipients also spent last summer playing representative cricket away from home.

Horseman represented the North Coastal Zone at the Northern NSW Country Challenge in Tamworth, while Cooper played for Northern NSW at the State Challenge in Canberra.
