Covid testing to commence at Tea Gardens Country Club

IN response to the urging of Member for Port Stephens Kate Washington, a Covid-19 testing service for the community of Tea Gardens and surrounds will commence from Thursday 9 September in the Tea Gardens Country Club carpark.

The testing service will be offered by Medtech Services in conjunction with their laboratory partner, 4Cyte Pathology.

“We’re a local family pathology practice based out of Wallsend for more than 40 years, so in keeping with our ethos and focus on patient care and serving our local community, it makes perfect sense for us to respond to the need for testing in and around the Tea Gardens area.

“The Tea Gardens community is demographically the oldest people group in Australia, and with the community being very tight knit, and at the same time a popular holiday/getaway destination, there’s understandable nervousness in travelling into another area with active cases in order to be tested,” said Nick Burns, Medtech Services.

Medtech Services and 4Cyte Pathology established the Hunter region’s first private no-referral drive-thru Covid-19 test service in mid 2020, and continue with important services such as home visit Covid-19 testing for the infirmed.

“Creating a testing clinic for the folk of Tea Gardens just feels like one big ‘house call’ for us – it’s just what we have always done for patients.

“We’re acutely aware of the need for reliable testing turnaround times for results.

“We know how important this is for those needing to access their medical treatments, and also clearance testing for patients to return to work etc.

“Together with our laboratory partner 4Cyte Pathology, we have been able to provide reliability in Covid-19 testing result times for the better part of 18 months now.

“Our local team based at our Wallsend hub have been a big part of that, doing much of the pre-analytical specimen processing.

“We’re able to get results back to patients very quickly, and avoid long waiting times – even during peak periods of demand.”

The news of the testing site comes after vocal support from Member for Port Stephens Kate Washington, who told News Of The Area, “Too many people have been forced to wait too long to receive their test results.

“If someone is waiting four to seven days to receive their result, that seriously impacts their life, particularly if they can’t work from home.

“I’ve been pushing for additional testing sites across Port Stephens, and I’m relieved two new testing clinics have been set up in Raymond Terrace and Anna Bay.

“I’ve also been liaising with service providers about a possible testing service in Tea Gardens/Hawks Nest and I’m hopeful it will materialise.

“The only way we’re going to overcome this outbreak is for everyone to get tested if they have the slightest of symptoms.

“That’s why it’s so important to have quick and convenient local testing options, to enable people to do the right thing and protect themselves and our community.”
