Tea Gardens woman Jennifer Wenham recently had her hard work for the Red Cross recognised.

Jennifer was one of six recipients in NSW of the Distinguished Service Award Citation and Medal at the Grace Hotel in York Street Sydney.

The award was presented to Jennifer by His Excellency General the Honourable David Hurley, Governor of NSW.

The award is presented to a person for Significant Contribution to supporting the vital work of the International Red Cross and Red Crescent Movement.

The ceremony was held on 8 May which coincides with World Red Cross and Red Crescent Day and commemorates the birthday of the founder of Red Cross Jean Henri DUNANT.

“I was humbled through receiving the award, as none of us volunteer for the Red Cross for accolades,” Jennifer said.

“The organisation is dependent on people giving up some time to help their fellow man in times of need.”

For nine years Jennifer has been involved in the local branch of the Red Cross and is the current President.

The local branch meets every Fourth Monday of the month at the Masonic Hall on Myall Street Tea Gardens.

“We would love to see some more volunteers get involved and especially some younger people to carry on the traditions of the Red Cross movement.”
