Photo: Sports Photography on the Coffs Coast. THE Coffs Harbour Snappers dived into the semi-finals with a 34-29 win over the Kempsey Cannonballs last Saturday at Bay Range Rugby Park. It was a solid all round performance from the Snappers with Brad Thorn dominant gaining possession in the line-outs, powerful forward runs from James Bellamy breaking through the big Cannonball defence and mazy runs from skillful backs Darcy Collins and Josh Miller provided penetration for the Snappers. The Snappers now face the Cannonballs again in the semi-finals and the victory ensures a home semi-final in front of their home crowd at Bay Range Rugby Park on Sunday 15 August. Co-captain Chris Tonks got the physical game he anticipated. “Pretty physical game as always expected against a big Kempsey pack. “They were fast in the outside backs and really made our outside backs work for it defensively all day. “That game was always going to be massive and we now play each other again next Sunday in a knockout semi, today’s win means we get the home game. “So it’s next Sunday at home for us against them again. “We needed that win yesterday for the team’s confidence going into next week, the first time we have sung the team song in a fair few weeks so it was good. “We have a lot to work on this week but I’m confident with a full strength team and now with a win we can roll on through the finals and have a good crack at the comp,” said Chris. Co-captain Zac Cross echoed the importance of playing the semi-final at home. “Yeah it was good to get a win leading into our semi next week and securing a home minor semi final for Sunday. “I think our attacking structure was looking a lot better yesterday compared to our previous weeks and we’re really starting to gel as a group now we’ve had our full strength squad back for two games and two weeks of training,” said Zac. The Snappers reserve grade bowed out of the competition following a 19-0 defeat to the Kempsey Cannonballs and after a team photograph vowed to be out in full force to support the first grade in the semis on Sunday.
