WHEN things go wrong it is important for children to have something to comfort them.

But when a child is in an accident or is critically ill there is no time to stop and grab a much-loved toy to clutch.

This is where the Trauma Teddies step in.

There is a small army of people across the country knitting Trauma Teddies for children.

These Trauma Teddies are important for our front line workers as well as for the children who receive them.

Ambulance Officers, nurses and doctors can use the teddies to distract young patients while tests and procedures are conducted.

For parents these special teddies can be a much needed boost on a day when nothing is going the way it was planned.

Elaine Richards of Salt Ash is just one contributor to the program.

Throughout the lockdown, Elaine’s knitting needles have been clicking away making Trauma Teddies.

Elaine Richards told News Of the Area, “I make the Trauma Teddies and they go to the Mother’s Union and then these are given to children when they need them.”

Elaine is going to hand over 13 Trauma Teddies at the next Mother’s Union meeting and all of these teddies made with love will help a child.
