THE Coffs Coast Tigers hit the Macleay Valley Rangers for six last Saturday in the Coastal Premier League at Polwarth Drive.

The 6-0 victory elevates the Tigers into second place in a congested Coastal Premier League where only three points separate second to fifth with only three rounds to go.

The Tigers have one of the youngest squads in the competition with many players experiencing their first year in senior football and improving as the season has progressed.

Tigers Coach Luke Stow was pleased with the result but emphasised the continual improvement required for semi-finals football.

“Obviously 6-0 very happy with, but more happy with the nil to be honest as in the last few weeks we have scored goals but leaked them also so the focus for the last week has been focused on the areas that have let us down over the past few weeks and the boys responded.

“Football wise we are ready to compete but still we learn each week on the areas we can improve and look to do so over the next few games that are important if we want to play semi finals football,” said Luke.

Tigers captain and shot stopper Luke Kliendienst said every game is a must win to finish in the top four.

“Was good to come away with the points, the boys played the ball around very well and kept most of the possession leaving me with not much work to do for a clean sheet.

“Big props to the Rangers for travelling when down in numbers and showing up.

“The season is so close to the end making every game a must win to maintain a top four finish, such a tough competition with not knowing the outcome of other matches.

“I feel the second half of the season has been good for the team as we’ve become closer and started to build something special together as results are starting to come our way.

“Spirits are high and we just wanna keep pushing for the rest of the season,” said Luke.

The Tigers host Sawtell on Saturday 31 July at 5pm at Polwarth Drive as they seek to consolidate a place in the semi-finals.
