THE new connected Learning Centre at Salamander Bay is a $7 million investment by the NSW Government which will see TAFE more than quadruple course offerings for locals.

The Connected Learning Centre offers courses alongside the TAFE facilities which sit within the Tomaree Education Precinct which also houses Tomaree High School and Tomaree Public School.

Parliamentary Secretary for the Hunter Taylor Martin said the new digitally-enabled Tomaree CLC is now taking enrolments for Semester 2 across more than 35 courses.

“This new state-of-the-art facility is offering locals a host of qualifications in growth industries for the first time, with many set to commence from July 12,” Mr Martin said.

“The NSW Government is investing in TAFE NSW to equip regional students with job-ready skills – and I look forward to seeing local students take advantage of the new and enhanced range of learning and course options in Port Stephens.

“Supported by the latest learning technologies and Mobile Training Units, the new multi-million-dollar Tomaree Connected Learning Centre will equip students with practical skills aligned to local skills needs.

“I urge locals to investigate how the TAFE NSW Tomaree Connected Learning Centre can future-proof their careers with world-class training.”

The courses offered through the TAFE NSW Connected Learning Centre reflect growing industries in the local community, with an emphasis on health and community services, tourism, creative design, hospitality, business, and technology.

Minister for Skills and Tertiary Education Geoff Lee said, “The Tomaree Connected Learning Centre shows how TAFE NSW is evolving to meet the changing needs of students, local communities, businesses and industries in new and innovative ways.”

“CLCs are a key initiative of the NSW Government and offer students access to the latest learning technologies such as simulation and virtual reality, expert teachers both on and off-site, and personalised support services.”

The CLC offers courses in Agribusiness, Career Pathways, Creative Design Ideation, Health and Wellbeing and Community Services, Infrastructure, Energy and Construction, Innovative Manufacturing Robotics and Science, Technology and Business, and Tourism and Experience Services.

For locals wishing to gain further education the facility will provide training on the peninsula saving students from travelling to Newcastle to access courses.

From Robotics, Administration, RSA and Construction to Aged Care, Cake Decorating, Glam Eyes and Fitness there is a wide array of training courses now available in the Bay.

Leah Anderson, President of Business Port Stephens told News Of The Area, “Business Port Stephens is excited to see that the Tomaree CLC is now open and is delivering a wide range of connected learning courses across many different industry skill sectors.

“We have been a strong advocate for this TAFE for many years, as it will provide more opportunity for Tertiary education that many people in our community could not previously access for many reasons, including connectivity and distance to travel to TAFE in Newcastle.

“From high school leavers to seniors, the TAFE CLC will provide more opportunities for learning than ever previously available before in Port Stephens,” she said.
