P MEIN’S response (‘Dollar Savings Galore’, p30, NOTA 4/6/21) to my letter (‘What Climate Emergency’, p33, NOTA 28/5/21) is a perfect illustration of the point I wished to make.

It is irrelevant to P Mein that the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC) model’s predicted temperatures are well in excess of reality observed by meteorological balloons and NASA satellites.

What appears important to P Mein, is that the IPCC model appears to receive the most votes from scientists and scientific bodies and this validates it.

Mainstream science does not always get it right.

For example in 1928, Alfred Wegener, with a PhD in astronomy, was bitterly ridiculed by geologists for his theory on continental drift, even though it was based on very sound evidence. It was not until the 1960s that it became generally accepted.

Blind faith may have its place in religion but in science, as in everyday life, an enquiring and questioning mind is far more beneficial.
