COFFS Harbour’s junior baseball players raised their game in preparation for ‘carnival baseball’ at an upcoming tournament in Lismore.

Coffs Harbour Allstars President Chris Cook explained to News Of The Area, “The juniors are getting ready for a tournament in Lismore, so all very exciting at the moment with the newer players about to experience carnival baseball for the first time plus the fun and off field antics that come during the trip.

“There were some quality hits coming from all across the field with highlights being hits from Lincoln Wilson and a centre field catch from Ethan Hunt that turned into a double play.

“Both catchers Ethan Cameron and Flynn Thompson led their teams well from behind the dish and supported their pitchers well,” said Chris.

In the senior A grade competition, the Coffs Harbour Allstars overcame the Woolgoolga Bluesox 5-2.

“Tyran Fieldes showed why the lefty is becoming a threat on the bump beguiling the Bluesox’s lineup with raw heat and combining with Ben Langler’s experience behind the plate to help lead Allstars to a 5-2 win in another closely contested game with one play the difference between the clubs.

“Both Tyran and the mastery that is Gerrad Walsh kept their teams in contention with few hitters able to make the most of their at bats, it was left to the steady eye of Jason Bromell to drive in the first run of the game.

“Great team fielding made the difference in the end with Allstars walking away with the win,” said Chris.

In the senior B grade competition the match was tied at 9-9.

“B grade was a tight tussle with a 9-9 draw after a great team hitting performance to start led by a Chris Catchpool double and Brock Wilson’s pitching kept the Bluesox’s bats quiet.

“With Bluesox’s Micheal Perret return to the mound, the runs dried up for the Allstars and defence was tested on great gap hitting from the Sox lineup,” said Chris.
