Macleay Valley Rangers beat Boambee Bombers

Boambee Bombers player Luke France takes on the Macleay Valley Rangers defence.

THE Macleay Valley Rangers have become the first side to beat the Boambee Bombers this season, after a 2-1 win during Round 9 of the Coastal Premier League.

Two second half goals in the space of a few minutes saw the Rangers overcome a 1-0 deficit to earn the valuable three points at Ayrshire Park.

Luke France gave the Bombers the lead in the 20th minute heading home the opening goal from a beautiful cross into the goal square.

The Bombers would dominate possession and chances throughout the match, but a second goal proved elusive as the Rangers remained resolute in the face of waves of Bombers attacks.

The Rangers equalised with 20 minutes remaining after converting a header from a corner, with the visitors scoring the match winner just minutes later.

Bombers captain Mitchell Brewster lamented his side’s missed chances and defensive lapses.

“In front of goal we needed to take our chances, and it’s just the same thing every week giving away stupid penalties and it came back to haunt us,” he said.

“It was poor making on set pieces which lead to goals, and we shot ourselves in the foot.”

Brewster said his side was looking forward to the return of key personnel.

“The last couple of weeks we have been down on numbers, so hopefully we get some players back soon.”

The second placed Bombers are scheduled to play the third placed Port United in the match of the round this weekend.
