LOCAL author Karly Lane has released her seventeenth novel, moving from rural Australian stories to the Scottish Highlands.

A spokesperson for Allen and Unwin said, “Karly Lane has been an author with Allen and Unwin for 11 years, selling almost five hundred thousand copies and we are now pleased to release her seventeenth novel, Take Me Home.

“This is Karly’s first book into the commercial fiction realm and also a subject dear to Karly’s heart.

“The Scottish Highlands was the location for a recent trip for Karly to explore her own ancestry,” they said.

Ms Lane told News of The Area, “We went on a holiday to see things and I wanted to research on the trip about the family side of things.

“I knew then that I wanted to write a book set in Scotland,” she said.

“I have Scottish heritage on both of my parents’ sides and was brought up on stories of clans and castles and everything in between.

“I wanted to show people there’s more to Scotland than just the tourist spots.”

Ms Lane was thrilled to be able to include so many of the places she visited during her trip, local places in the north-east, which made it all the more special to write.

Karly’s deep love for the highlands enriches the depth of scenery and characterisation.

This is a story of learning about your past in order to create a more fruitful future – filled with curiosity, adventure, romance and deep family connection.

Ms Lane’s usual genre is rural fiction and when she discussed her idea for the novel the publisher thought it would be good for Karly to enter the more broader genre of commercial women’s fiction with its focus on family dynamics, relationships or secrets.

Ms Lane’s writing schedule means she is always working ahead of time and has already submitted her next two novels to Allen and Unwin.

“Im now working on the December time slot for a rural fiction novel set in Macksville and the Nambucca Valley when we were going through our fires as I wanted to showcase the hidden people who were fighting fires or the people at the RSL running food and clothing centres.”
