Is it okay to work from home in your pyjamas on cold days?

Since the pandemic, our workplace has continued to work from home, and I just feel more comfortable.

Dear Tina,

I can totally understand the temptation to work in your pyjamas.

In 10-degree weather, who wouldn’t want to be rugged up in their Oodie, bunny slippers and beanie.

Now many of us are still working from home, we are also paying for it with our power bills, so swanning around in something cosy makes sense.

The only problem I can see is that we should dress for the job we aspire to, not the job we are in. If you wear your pyjamas when working from home, you could subconsciously be paving the way for a slack attitude to your workday.

This week it may just be pyjamas, but by next week you will probably have moved from your desk to the lounge and put on the midday movie.

In a month’s time you could potentially have given up on work altogether, instead eating ice cream and fudge sauce straight from the tub, wearing a mud mask and making nostalgic Spotify playlists instead of fulfilling your role as a procurement officer.

It may go unnoticed for a while, but how will you explain it away at your next performance review?

“Yes, John, I can see that we have run out of essential medical supplies, but on the upside, my job satisfaction is at an all-time high.”

Perhaps you could just look professional from the waist up?

This will be particularly useful for any impromptu video conferencing calls.
