AN AUSTRALIAN Red Cross Humanitarian Partner Award has been bestowed upon Woolgoolga High School Teacher-Librarian Megan Hart for her promotion of Red Cross volunteering among the school’s students over the past 12 years.

Megan was nominated for the Red Cross Humanitarian Partner Award by the Woolgoolga Red Cross branch for her promotion of student engagement in many community events, including the annual Red Cross Calling fundraising drive in Woolgoolga over many years.

“Megan remains an active supporter of the Red Cross, she is an exceptional leader who encourages volunteering based on her own strong focus and dedication to community service,” Woolgoolga Red Cross Zone representative Judy Jackson said.

“Megan Hart and Woolgoolga High School have developed a respected connection in the community of Woolgoolga and shown service of exceptional nature which has greatly assisted Australian Red Cross.

“They are worthy of this recognition as a Humanitarian Partner.”

Megan has also attended Woolgoolga Red Cross Branch meetings as a guest speaker, accepted invitations to Branch events and facilitated the Branch’s entry into the world of social media.

Megan and her family travelled to Sydney on Friday 7 May to receive the award at an official World Red Cross Day ceremony.

Megan said she felt honoured to be at the ceremony sitting among so many other Australians who have made enormous contributions to Australian Red Cross, particularly over the past year with so much adversity.

“It was an inspiration sitting at the ceremony with all of those people that have contributed so widely to Red Cross initiatives,” Megan said.

“Encouraging students to volunteer and be involved in the wider community is a big part of what I do so that they can maximise their learning and wellbeing outcomes.

“Volunteering often builds the self esteem of students and can help them aspire to success in all aspects of life.”

The Australian Red Cross Humanitarian Partner Award is a national award which recognises outstanding service to Australian Red Cross by an external humanitarian partner.
