Hockey Coffs Coast season continues

Round 5 action between the Bellingen Swoopers and Beaches Sea Dragons.

THE latest Hockey Coffs Coast season continued with Round 5 matches decided at the Coffs Harbour Hockey Complex.

Cassie Smith is one of the players who plays in the weekly women’s competition.

Smith plays for two teams from the Orara Valley Hockey Club, and said it had been a truly family affair for her.

“My mum and sister have played for years, and we have quite a few relatives that play for Orara and it’s a very family orientated club,” she said.

Smith shared with News Of The Area her favourite part of playing hockey.

“I like how social our club is, as I went to Brisbane and played for one year and hated it,” she said.

“You just turned up and then everyone left, but here I like how social it is as we go out for dinner with our teammates and do social activities together.

“The social aspect is the best part of playing, socialising with my hockey girls.

“We’re not playing in the Olympics, I play because it’s fun.”

She said the Orara Valley Hockey Club had seen a growth in numbers in recent years.

“A few years ago we had two teams in all the divisions,” she said.

“Now we have three women’s teams and two men’s teams.”

The Hockey Coffs Coast season continues with Round 6 matches this weekend.
