Jan McWilliams gives a monthly Council update MidCoast LGA (overall news) by NOTA - April 8, 2015 HOLIDAY SEASON Once again the holiday season is upon us in the Great Lakes and it is pleasing to see that so many people are once again visiting us to enjoy their holidays with us. Reports from tourism operators are that we are experiencing very high visitation numbers over the holiday period. GREAT LAKES ARTS AWARDS Nominations are open for the Great Lakes Arts Awards, which are run every second year. Nominations are invited under five categories, namely: Visual Arts, Performing Arts, Literary Arts, and Youth (under 18). The fifth category, Enlightened Support, is awarded to an individual, group or organisation that has made a significant contribution to any creative discipline either by endowment or by creative practice. Nominations for the Awards close at 4.30pm on Friday 15 May. Nomination packs are available from Council’s website. CLUB GRANTS PROGRAM It’s not too late to apply for a ClubGRANT. Funding is now available for community organisations in the Great Lakes area through the program which is administered by Great Lakes Council. Under the program, NSW clubs (that earn over $1 million annually in gaming machine revenue) give money to community projects and services. In turn they receive dollar-for-dollar gaming tax deductions. Applications for funding close at 5pm on Friday 24 April. All applications need to submitted online via Council’s website. COMMUNITY CONSULTATIONS Just giving you some advance notice – please join us for an information session on the draft Delivery Program and Operational Plan for 2015-2016. The Delivery Program is a four year plan aligned to the term of the elected Council (the current Program covers 2013-2017). The Operational Plan is a one year plan that supports the Delivery Program and outlines the specific projects and services to be delivered to achieve the commitments of the Delivery Program. Councillors, the General Manager and senior staff will be there to answer questions you may have. Details of those meetings are below.
