Work by Great Lakes Council to reconstruct Berkeley Street at Stroud (on the Bucketts Way) is nearing completion.

“The reconstruction work on Berkeley Street is being undertaken between Lamans Creek and Broadway Street,” said Council’s Director of Engineering, Mr Hartley.

“This section of Berkeley Street was in very poor condition detracting from the appearance of Stroud,” said Mr Hartley.

Storm water drainage and kerb and gutter have been installed at selected locations and the road pavement has been reconstructed.

“The reconstruction of the road pavement involved removal of the existing road pavement by excavation, followed by the placement of a new gravel pavement,” said Mr Robert Fish, Council’s Operations Manager.

“Completion of the drainage and road pavement work is a credit to the Council staff at Stroud who undertook the work,” said Mr Fish.

“An asphalt surfacing has been placed on the reconstructed road pavement to complete that phase of the work,” said Mr Fish.

Road users and the community are to be thanked for their cooperation and patience while this work has been undertaken.

Work will soon be undertaken to install guard rail on the Lamans Creek bridge approach, line marking and a footpath along the eastern side of Berkeley Street.

“Work on the project is being undertaken with funding provided under the NSW Government’s Repair Program for regional roads and Council’s Regional Roads Construction Program,” said Mr Hartley.

“The work greatly improves the appearance of Berkeley Street which is the main thoroughfare through Stroud,” said Mr Hartley.
