THE NSW GC Women’s Open Singles Championship was played at Tempe from 9 to 11 April.

12 players entered and played a round robin preliminary round before the top 8 played knock-out quarter finals.

Sandy Tawa from Nelson Bay Croquet Club won 4 games in the round-robin but lost a play-off for 8th place to Jill Sullivan (Sutherland).

As a result, Sandy played in the Plate competition which she won undefeated, beating Nerida Taylor (Toronto) 7-4 7-3 and Roslyn Johnstone (Sutherland) 7-4 7-5.

Pam Barnwell (Newcastle National Park but also a member at Nelson Bay) won 6 games in the round-robin and went on to beat Elizabeth Montague (Killara) 7-2 7-6 in the quarter final before losing to eventual winner Alison Sharpe (Killara) 2-7 5-7.

In other croquet news, Maitland Croquet Club hosted the inaugural Division 2 Hunter Challenge Golf Croquet Doubles on Wednesday 31 March 2021.

18 doubles pairs from across the Hunter region clubs were divided into 3 blocks based on handicap.

Each block played a round robin of 5 games of level play.

Nelson Bay Croquet Club entered three doubles pairs with Cheryl Lloyd and Sandy Tawa and Linda Butler and David Wilson playing in Block 1 and Liz Friend and Peter Gordon contesting Block 2.

Liz and Peter finished the day unbeaten to be winners of Block 2.

Cheryl and Sandy and Linda and David were competitive in Block A but did not finish at the top.
