Sophie Howarth, a Year 2 student from St. Joseph’s Bulahdelah, traveled to  Sydney’s Powerhouse Museum to receive an award from the Governor of New South Wales, David Hurley on Friday 20 March.

Sophie was presented with a Highly Commended Award for her entry into a state-wide anti-bullying campaign.

Primary students from around the state were invited to design a poster representing “Say No to Bullying”.

This coincided with the National Day of Action Against Bullying.

This is an important day that highlights respectful and positive relationships and encourages the students to  partner with their communities to have a strong stance against bullying.

More than 6000 designs were submitted from 170 primary schools in New South Wales.

Sophie’s winning design consisted of a young girl sitting and crying and a big boy being a bully and another older girl standing up to the bully.

“I wanted to show through my artwork that girls can say STOP to boys,” Sophie explained.

Her proud family were present with her on the day and enjoyed the formal occasion.
