ANNIE Seaton, one of Nambucca’s favourite authors has introduced her new book, Hidden Valley, to guests at Nambucca Valley Council Libraries.

Giving insights into her inspirations, she talked about the creative processes of writing.

Specialising in the genre of eco adventure, crime, suspense and action with romantic elements, Annie’s novels are based on historical facts and inspired by a place.

Annie said, “The setting is always the first step.

“Then an issue that threatens the setting.

“Next I create my characters which drives the adventure and resolution of their issues.

“I love researching and exploring the different settings.”

Hidden Valley, the fourth in the Porter Sisters series, is set on a remote cattle station west of Kakadu National Park and is a thrilling ride of mystery and hidden family secrets weaving an adventurous journey to eventually finding love in the harsh Australian outback.

Hitting number two in Apple Australia’s Best Selling Books for the week of launch, Annie is justly excited at the public’s response.

“This is a journey I never dreamed of when I retired as Principal of a local school ten years ago, to become a best-selling author.

“I had always wanted to write a book from the age of four when I first discovered libraries, but life, marriage, kids and career ‘got in the way’.

“Now I have the opportunity and I love it,” said Annie, who has written 48 books.

Friends and neighbours in Nambucca have been reminding Annie that she had promised to write a story set in their shared home town.

“They kept on saying ‘when?’

“So, I now have the setting: Wellington Rock.

“That’s where the shipwrecks occurred in the 19th century.

“I think I might have unwanted development as the issue…I’m thinking about it,” Annie said.

We’ll have to wait and see.

Annie self publishes most of her books while maintaining working relationships with Harper Collins.

She recently bought back the rights to her early books and is releasing audio versions, working with Audible, an audiobooks specialist.
