COMMUNITY radio station 107.9 2AIRFM started operation nearly 23 years ago, broadcasting from the Big Banana and providing local people with the opportunity to volunteer to work in radio, and with an alternate programming to the major radio stations.

The station moved to the Jetty shopping centre and then in 2015 to its current location in Glenreagh street.

2AIRFM currently has approximately 60 volunteer presenters who provide a broad range of music and community services including Country and Easy Listening music, requests on Saturday nights, ‘Hands of Time’ memories from the 40’s and 50’s, and a Thursday morning community show featuring interviews with local people.

With the motto of ‘Good music stands the test of time’ the broadcaster also provides some unique public services including lost and found announcements.

Vice President of Sales and Marketing Kaye Hamilton told News Of The Area, “We are able to supply all sorts of community information and stories that the big stations don’t usually cover.

“We are an all-volunteer organisation, and are funded via sponsorship, membership fees and donations, and we are launching a membership drive in April to recover from the COVID blues.”

To that end 2AIRFM will be setting up a pop-up information stop in Coffs Central outside the Post Office beginning in Seniors week on 22 April from 9:00 am to 4:00 pm, and again on 20 May and 24 June to provide information and sign up new members.
