COVID-19 vaccinations are coming to Tea Gardens and Hawks Nest.

Despite not yet being listed on the Health Direct website, The Ochre Health clinic will soon be rolling out the first round of COVID-19 vaccinations in the area.

“At this stage, we expect to be able to start accepting bookings in mid-April.”

These vaccinations will be rolled out to those eligible in Phase 1b, with approximately 50 vaccinations per week.

Those eligible will include: health care workers, elderly adults (70 and over), adults with a specified medical condition, adults with a disability who have a specified underlying medical condition as well as critical and high risk workers including defence, police, fire, emergency services and meat processing.

The COVID-19 clinics will be separate clinics held after hours with a specific vaccination schedule.

After receiving the first vaccination, the second injection is delivered twelve weeks later.

It is important to note that a flu injection cannot be received within two weeks of getting a COVID-19 vaccination.

The latest Household Impacts of COVID-19 survey from the Australian Bureau of Statistics, found that three quarters of people would get the vaccine when it was recommended for them, however, one in ten people said that they would not get a vaccine, with seventeen percent still unsure.

Australia’s Chief Medical Officer, Professor Paul Kelly said, “Our focus during the vaccine rollout remains the safety of all Australians.

“The Australian Government remains confident in the AstraZeneca COVID-19.”

Local residents are urged to check the Health Direct website before reaching out to their local GP to ensure they are eligible for the vaccination at https://www.healthdirect.gov.au/.
