SWIFF 21 line up to feature Oscar nominated films

‘Falling’ is Viggo Mortensen’s first film as a director.

 

THE 2021 Screenwave International Film Festival boasts a line-up of Oscar nominations and world, Australian and New South Wales premieres.

‘Nomadland’, starring two-time Oscar-winner Frances McDormand, and ‘Minari’, a beautifully nuanced film about a young Korean family chasing the American Dream in Arkansas, along with ‘Judas & The Black Messiah’, ‘Another Round’ and ‘The Mole Agent’ have all been nominated for Oscars, including Best Actor and Best Director.

The festival also hosts seven Australian Premieres, six NSW Premieres, and 23 World Premieres of short films.
Australian premieres include Viggo Mortensen’s directorial debut with the family drama ‘Falling’, the UNICEF Award-winning Polish holocaust epic ‘The Painted Bird, UK youth drug-smuggling social drama ‘County Lines’, hard-hitting Filipino political journalism documentary ‘A Thousand Cuts’, the eye-opening French gender identity documentary ‘Little Girl’.

Also preparing for Australian premiere is ‘Wildfire’, which tells the story of sisters reconciling in post-conflict Ireland, and ‘The Macaluso Sisters’, a story told over decades as it follows a family of Italian sisters through good and hard times.

NSW Premieres include ‘Yalda, A Night of Forgiveness’, an Iranian capital punishment drama set on a reality TV set, along with ‘The Surrogate’, an ethical drama exploring social issues through a fascinating lens.

Audiences can follow the fight of a supermodel with Downs syndrome to break the glass ceiling in ‘Maddy The Model’, and experience a pressure cooker thriller in ‘The Killing of Two Lovers’.

The festival is seeing record pre-sales across its 120 sessions, with a number of films now on their way to selling out.

SWIFF’21 is starting in less than three weeks, running from April 14 to 29.
