THE Coffs Harbour Regional City Action Plan 2036 has been released by the State Government to inform the future growth and direction of the region over the next 20 years.

The Draft Coffs Harbour Regional City Action Plan 2036 was publicly exhibited on the NSW Planning Portal in June and July 2020 for comment.

The Plan sets a 20-year vision for Coffs Harbour, which includes key actions such as bringing laneways to life, transforming the former Pacific Highway corridor, and supporting the growth of Coffs Harbour Airport with additional employment lands.

The NSW Department of Planning, Industry and Environment released the final Coffs Harbour Regional City Action Plan on Tuesday 16 March.

The department’s Executive Director for Local and Regional Planning Monica Gibson said Coffs Harbour has and will continue to see growth driven by migration to the regions in response to the pandemic, and that the plan recognises that.

“Coffs will become an even more attractive place for tree changers and city dwellers wanting a lifestyle change while retaining the best of city living,” Ms Gibson said.

“There are many benefits the plan will help us realise – the future Pacific Highway bypass, the city centre having an active night-time economy with more al fresco dining and a thriving arts and cultural scene, and an expanded airport that will confirm Coffs Harbour’s role as the tourism and economic gateway to the region.”

The plan includes seven collaboration opportunities and twenty objectives for government agencies and Coffs Harbour City Council to deliver together.

“All agencies and levels of government working together is the best way we can ensure planning for Coffs Harbour’s growth is measured and sustainable,” Ms Gibson said.

“This plan responds to expected population growth by aligning infrastructure delivery with sustainable housing – which makes best use of available land and access to services.

“We want to help Coffs Harbour fulfil its potential as a thriving regional centre for business, culture and government services.”
