COFFS Harbour Track and Field members continue to prove they are amongst the state’s finest.

The group of stellar young athletes excelled at the recent NSW Junior Track & Field Championships in Sydney.

Hayley Kitching (U/18) backed up from competing at the Open State Championships by winning the 1500m with a personal best of 4 mins 29.33 in hot conditions.

Kitching backed up the gold medal winning performance by winning a double with a dominant win in the 800m.

Olissa Onley made it a clean sweep for Coffs athletes in the girl’s long-distance events as she took out the 3000m.

Onley also finished in 4th behind teammate Kitching in the 1500m.

Alex Harrison (U/20) came 2nd on a count back in her High Jump event.

In atrocious conditions she just missed a new personal best to finish with a jump of 1.76m.

Jack Sheehan (U/18) earnt a silver medal in the 110m hurdles, while Amaia Wain (U/15) earnt a bronze medal in the high jump.

Daniel Williams also earned a silver medal in his 3000m event.

Coffs Harbour Track and Field coach Glenn Thacker was pleased with his team of athletes fared against the state’s best, especially in difficult conditions in Sydney.

“These results were achieved with lightning postponing the last of Fridays events, 33 plus temperatures on Saturday and wet and cold conditions on Sunday,” he said,

“Overall, the athletes handle conditions well producing some solid performances.”

Although missing the weekend’s events Lulu McGrath (U/16 Triple Jump), Linc Henry (U/14 90m Hurdles) and Jade Kitching (U/16 800m) will join Alex Harrison (U/20 High Jump & Heptathlon), Jack Sheehan (U/18 110m & 400m Hurdles), Hayley Kitching (U/18 800m & 1500m), Olissa Onley (U/18 3000m), Amaia Wain (U/15 High Jump) and Danial Williams (U/15 1500m & 3000m), as they will all be off to the Australian Junior Championships in Sydney in April.

Not a bad State Championships for a small country club.
