WOOLGOOLGA’s Elma Miller has recently celebrated her 105th year.

Elma Eyre was born in Sydney in 1916 and lived in various suburbs until WWII.

She worked for underwear company Berlei for almost ten years before marrying William Miller and having three boys, Graham, Keith and Alan.

William served in the Australian Air Force during WWII so the family lived at Benalla in Victoria where he was stationed.

The family moved to a little house behind the golf course in Wentworth Falls in the Blue Mountains, where the boys used to collect golf balls and sell them back to the golfers.

The family moved to Oyster Bay in 1948 so the boys did not have to travel so far to school.

Elma spent much of her time knitting for others, particularly for babies.

She left Oyster Bay ten years ago to move to a retirement home in Woolgoolga.

Elma celebrated her 100th at the Woolgoolga Surf Club with 60 people.

Her wish was to feel her toes on the sand and to go in the water, which she did, with the assistance of club members, and repeated it on the following three birthdays until COVID-19 prevented it last year.

Elma spoke to radio personality John Laws on her birthday and told him that she was being well-cared for and that her best days were living in the Blue Mountains.

Mr Laws went on to send Elma a clock for her birthday.

Elma’s son Graham attributes her longevity to the fact that she never drank tea, coffee or alcohol.

She is still in good health and can still move around with a walker, unaided.
