COFFS Harbour’s Culture Hub will open it’s latest exhibition ‘Jagun Yamarr’ on Saturday 20 March, following the departure of the Archibald Prize portraiture exhibition.

Translating to ‘home fish’ or ‘country fish’, Jagun Yamarr showcases artistic works by Nambucca-based Gumbaynggirr artists and knowledge holders, exploring their unique connection to the rich local marine environment.

Jagun Yamarr presents works by Aboriginal community members who have a relationship with the marine environment, working with Southern Cross University and the National Marine Science Centre on inventories of marine species in Gumbaynggirr sea country.

The exhibition showcases language, knowledge and culture on Gumbaynggirr jagun.

The exhibition’s official opening will occur on Saturday evening, and the exhibition will continue until 17 April.

A free Jagun Yamarr Kids Easter Creative Workshop will also be held at Coffs Central at 10.30am and noon on Saturday 3 April.

Children will be able to recreate the local, natural Jagun Yamarr (home fish) and marine world in watercolour.

Coffs Harbour Regional Gallery’s Ash Frost will lead the children as they paint fish inspired by the Jagun Yamarr Exhibition.

The workshop is recommended for children aged between eight and twelve.

The Culture Hub is located on Level 1 of Coffs Central Shopping Centre and is open Tuesday to Saturday from 10am to 4pm.
